Advanced Propulsion Centre Grant Funding

Turning low carbon propulsion technology into UK products

The Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) aims to position the UK as a global centre of excellence for low carbon propulsion development and production. Funding automotive companies with innovative low carbon propulsion technology, or those seeking it as a product in the UK.

Since 2013 the APC has been using a £1 billion fund to deliver on a ten-year investment commitment between government and the automotive industry. Bringing together those who have good low carbon propulsion ideas and those who can bring them to market, and helping them access funding.

The Advanced Propulsion Centre was created by the Automotive Council to support technology and innovation in the following areas:

Thermal Propulsion Systems

Lightweight Vehicle and Powertrain Structures

Electric Machines and Power Electronics

Energy Storage and Energy Management

Competitions are typically launched twice each year. In particular, projects must deliver significant reductions in CO2 emissions compared to current best-in-class technologies, and have a clear, demonstrable route to production.
